Qardho, Puntland — PDON, in partnership with Save the Children Somalia, held a two-day workshop in Qardho as part of the NORAD Framework Program. The event focused on disability mainstreaming and raising awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Participants came from six districts—Qardho, Bosaso, Garowe, Burtinle, Galkayo, and Goldogob—and included PWDs, parents, teachers, and local CBO representatives. The training featured inclusive group discussions, visual aids, and sign language interpretation to ensure full participation.
Key Objectives:
- Clarify the difference between disability and impairment
- Identify barriers to inclusion
- Promote inclusive education
- Strengthen community-based support for PWDs
Outcomes:
- 30 participants sensitized, including teachers, parents, and PWDs
- Improved awareness of disability rights and inclusive practices
- Stronger collaboration encouraged between DPOs and protection actors
Participants expressed appreciation for the knowledge gained and emphasized the importance of continued awareness and advocacy to support disability inclusion across Puntland
