PDON Conducted a two days workshop that took place at New Rays Hotel Garowe. The workshop aimed to inform and equip different Disability People organizations and the Parents with the knowledge of dealing with and understanding persons with disabilities (PWDs), Disability Sensitization, Mainstreaming and Awareness.
The participants were invited from thirteen (13) organizations with the main actors being those with express knowledge in influencing in the decision making of their organizations.
Opening remarks were made by PDON Chairman Ali Abdi Aden, welcoming the participants and thanking them for the time they made to take part in the workshop.

Mr Ali stated the objectives and expected outputs of the workshop. He also urged the civil society members to be vigilant about advocating for persons with disability, as one of the main objectives, and stated that mainstreaming of disability into the planned activities of the DPOs was an important step that will go a long way in helping persons with disabilities.
The workshop was officially opened by the Venerable Department Director of the Puntland Ministry of Women and the Human rights Avv Safia Jama Gayre, She also welcomed the participants and in length gave details about the ongoing activities, the interest that MoWDAFA has with persons with disability, their rights and how as social workers we can change the attitude of others into welcoming and accepting persons with disabilities.
The 2 days workshop for DPOs was mainly organized so as to actively put these organizations in the process of assisting PWDs in whatever way possible. The eligibility of the participants was that one had to meet all the below requirements:
- Have capacity and willingness to undertake the training on behalf of their agency/institution
- Excellent skills of writing, speaking and understanding English Language.
- Be in a position of decision making in his/her agency and to be able to apply the knowledge gained to change behavior in the community towards the disabled people.
The duration of the workshop was from 25th – 26th July 2020.
Conclusion The Two day workshop was concluded by both PDON, the participants expressed appreciation for the workshop and were glad with the information gap that was filled concerning PWDs.
