Qardho, Puntland \u2014<\/strong> PDON, in partnership with Save the Children Somalia, held a two-day workshop in Qardho as part of the NORAD Framework Program. The event focused on disability mainstreaming<\/strong> and raising awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants came from six districts\u2014Qardho, Bosaso, Garowe, Burtinle, Galkayo, and Goldogob\u2014and included PWDs, parents, teachers, and local CBO representatives.<\/strong> The training featured inclusive group discussions, visual aids, and sign language interpretation to ensure full participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Objectives:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • Clarify the difference between disability and impairment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Identify barriers to inclusion<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Promote inclusive education<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Strengthen community-based support for PWDs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Outcomes:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    • 30 participants<\/strong> sensitized, including teachers, parents, and PWDs<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Improved awareness of disability rights and inclusive practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Stronger collaboration encouraged between DPOs and protection actors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Participants expressed appreciation for the knowledge gained and emphasized the importance of continued awareness and advocacy to support disability inclusion across Puntland<\/p>\n\n\n\n
